The restoration of the building envelope involved a complete dismantling of the Tyndall Stone façade. Every piece of stone was measured to fabricate detailed masonry elevations. The stone pieces were then archived and tested for strength; those deemed fit were reused in the reconstruction of the façade. Corroded wall ties were replaced with stainless steel ties and an air vapour barrier was introduced to increase energy efficiency. The façade was rebuilt in its original arrangement with new replacements where necessary. During the reconstruction process the gallery maintained its operations at full capacity.
